Attention halfsmoke fans of Northeast D.C.: At long last, Ben’s Chili Bowl’s H Street location will open on July 8th.
In what’s been a long-delayed expansion for the cherished purveyor’s of halfsmokes, chili dogs, chili cheese fries, and various foods of that ilk, the official ribbon cutting will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8.
This has been a long time coming: in 2013, Ben’s said they estimated the H Street location would open around March of 2014. Finally, more than a year later, it’s opening. The build out took a lot longer than expected.
So what can you expect at the new Ben’s Chili Bowl? Pretty much the same stuff you’d find at the U Street location. It’ll be open at 6 a.m. for breakfast and close at 2 a.m. on weekdays and 4 a.m. on weekends. The H Street location will have one thing the U Street spot doesn’t: a soft-serve ice cream machine.
Ben’s also says that they’ll be opening a sidewalk patio soon as well as an upstairs, which will feature a second floor restaurant and bar. There will also be a rooftop patio/bar. That’ll probably open in about two to three months.
